Remembrance
For this poem, write about someone you love who has passed away. This can be a family member, friend, or even a person you never knew personally. It could be a music artist, someone famous, or anyone from the past. As long as it’s someone who had a profound influence on your life or someone you loved for some reason or another. Here’s my example for a music artist who helped me through tough times and gave me great joy at other times. Someone who touched my heart:
Chester – From Linkin Park – Singer, Songwriter
A voice for the voiceless
A beautiful voice
A relatable scream
A metalhead’s dream
Lyrics for the lost
Hope for the hopeless
Abused and broken
A heart outspoken
Anthems to hold on to
Sonnets to cry to
Connected to the core of his being
The only concert worth seeing
Before my first show
He decided to go
Now our worlds left in shambles
Grieving an artist we knew as a close friend
How strange it is to see the dark consume a light
A light reminder we’re made to fight
Pondering his fate is a heavy weight
I needed his lyrics to get me through
I related to his angst and misunderstood torture
Him and I could relate to our abusive nurture
Encouraging others was our lives put to use
Kindness and love are strong motivators
But a sentiment without truth cannot sustain
The void inside still remains
Lost and broken I turned to God
He showed me His truth was not a façade
Now I’m grounded in unchanging Love
God fixed me with lyrics and hope from above
I forever miss Chester
A voice of an angel
But now I’ve moved on
And have a steadfast Anchor
